Department Marketing Statement

The Department of Public Administration invites applications for an Open Rank, Fixed-Term Track (FTT) faculty position, to begin in the Fall 2024 semester, or when filled.

This position is an opportunity to serve students in two academic programs that prepare students to lead as innovators in public service. UTSA's Public Administration Master of Public Administration programs is located on UTSA's Downtown Campus in the heart of the city's central government and business district with proximity to community leaders and the nonprofit sector. This position also includes teaching in the Bachelor of Public Administration and Policy program which has been recognized for exemplary experiential and career-engaged learning. As part of a growing research university, UTSA and the Department strive to represent the city's vibrancy. Our programs are deeply rooted in the local community and our faculty bring broad ways of thinking and problem solving to their research and teaching.

The position is open rank within the Professor of Instruction and Professor of Practice series. For Professor of Instruction series (at either assistant, associate or professor level) a terminal degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science or related field is required. For the Professor of Practice series (at either assistant, associate or professor level), a Master's degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science or related field is required, and a terminal degree in those fields is preferred.

Other preferred requirements include teaching experience at the college level, and administrative experience at the college level. Alternative experiences such as a professional background in the public or non-profit sector will also be considered.

FTT faculty at UTSA are generally hired through renewable contracts. The primary contract would be for 9-months, with additional summer appointments (for teaching or administrative service) possible. Salary will be commensurate with rank.

This position would have a baseline teaching requirement of 4 undergraduate or graduate courses in the Public Administration Department each semester, but could include administrative appointments which would reduce this teaching load.
