The Machine Application Specialist provides effective demonstration, safety, operation, maintenance, and application training to customers, internal personnel and varied audiences that support and promote the sale of HOLT products and services focused on the construction industry based primarily on Caterpillar's construction product line. The product demonstrator/instructor is the key person to help deliver an outstanding experience for all equipment-related programs at HOLT locations and customer job sites.
Essential Functions:
Completes and processes all CAT-required post-delivery documentation
Partners with the sales team on customer machine demonstrations to provide technical expertise for application and operation
Work with individual Sales Representatives to customize customer experience and drive increased market share
Assures service installed attachments are installed correctly and working as designed prior to machine being shipped to customer
Checks the condition, appearance, and performance of the equipment prior to delivery to the customer
Travel to customer locations to demonstrate the full functions of the equipment
Works with various levels of the sales department to coordinate scheduling of demonstrations
Provides Product and Application training
Operates equipment to demonstrate features and capabilities, communicating operating techniques, displaying effective application & safety practices, and demonstrate the various technologies available on our products
Conducts product training including important aspects involving safety, operation, and correct application
Product and Job Site Evaluation/Recommendations:
Evaluate customer jobs to help maximize job site efficiency, machine application and operation, machine selection and configuration, safety of operations, etc
Recommend modifications and improvements, which result in superior product performance, producing greater return to the customer and resulting in machine sales
Sales Support:
Provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to dealer sales force and Customers at HOLT, Caterpillar, and Customer Provides support to potential customer purchases, both on and off site, with machine viewing and operation sessions
Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Superior heavy equipment operating skills
Ability to train and participate in the certification process for dealer demonstrator instructors to the level of Certified Dealer Instructor (CDI)
Proficient operational skills, and application expertise, and employs a wide range of demonstration, evaluation, analytical and communication techniques, and tools
Ability to develop required skills on the majority of Caterpillar product families as determined by Caterpillar's Equipment Training Solutions standards
Ability to win over potentially hostile audiences
Strong human relations and communication skills, both written and verbal in order to diffuse high-pressure and potentially hostile situations when instructing customers
Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Effective influencing skills, which include teaching, motivating, and developing customers' technical knowledge of heavy equipment operation
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented with good analytical skills
Excellent customer service skills
Education and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' experience operating heavy equipment, preferably with Caterpillar Equipment in heavy construction, quarry/aggregates and or mining industries
Ability to obtain Caterpillar Certified Dealer Instructor certification (if not already certified)
High School diploma or equivalent required
Valid Driver's License
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Travel:
Regular daily travel to customer locations with 5% being overnight

Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
