JOB TITLE: General Maintenance Technician

Several positions are available in multiple areas covering this contract (to include the Del Rio, Laredo, and the Rio Grande Valley regions) and are contingent upon contract award (expected to be made in Feb-Mar 2024).

SUMMARY: The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings in such trades at painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Without supervision, the technician performs highly skilled level of preventative maintenance duties, fabrication and major repairs of facilities, equipment and systems; performs any of the lower mechanical level functions, and provides training and guidance to lower level employees. The successful technician will be able to interact and provide detailed communications with all DAWSON staff, the client, subcontractors, and/or suppliers as needed. The technician may be required to submit information related to work orders in the Contract Maintenance Management System (CMMS). He/she will also ensure safe execution of field work, and deliver quality work product as defined by DAWSON, clients, and regulatory agencies from multiple on-site locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Applicant(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Ensures Performance Work Statement (PWS) is being performed per specifications at multiple locations.

  • Complete of all urgent and emergency requests for multiple locations in a timely manner, while maintaining response time requirements and client expectations.

  • Ensures adherence to all safety and quality practices and procedures while performing the performance of tasks in all work areas.

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings

  • Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.

  • Uses minor plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceiling.

  • Repairs or replaces sinks, water coolers, and toilets.

  • Paints structures and equipment.

  • Replaces or repairs concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.

  • Replaces damaged paneling and floor tiles.

  • Hangs doors, installs door locks, and replaces broken window panes.

  • Performs general maintenance on equipment and machinery.

  • Inspect buildings and equipment for needed maintenance or repairs.

  • Sources and picks up ordered parts or supplies and restocks parts or supplies.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on all minor and major pieces of equipment related to facilities in accordance with the Manufacturer O&M requirements.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs facilities, equipment and/or systems including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic circuits. (Motors, pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers and water system).

  • Performs building (plumbing and carpentry) and equipment repairs using hand tools, power tools and multiple electrical circuit troubleshooting with a volt-ohm meter.

  • Assembles components from supplied instructions or drawings and designs or fabricates simple components, assemblies or machine modifications.

  • Performs maintenance of equipment including lubrication utilizing oil or grease pumps/guns, disassemble, overhaul and reassemble complex components and replacement of defective electrical components or mechanical parts with supplied original manufacturer parts.

  • Performs repair techniques including, but not limited to, cutting, drilling, gluing, caulking, fastening of plastic, wood and steel; performs brazing, soldering and welding.

  • Assists in completion and close out of all preventive and corrective maintenance work orders and provides all required deliverables by submitting summary and/or Quality Control reports.

  • May need to assist with preparation of written reports and other documents as necessary.

  • Determine causes and make recommendations for appropriate corrective and/or preventive measures when necessary.

  • Promote safe and secure work areas by preventing hazardous conditions, property damage, and maintaining security on-site.

  • Safely operate vehicles and small equipment such as pickup trucks, forklifts, etc.

  • Travel between site locations within the Area of Responsibility as necessary.

  • Assists in training and coaching other technicians.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Based on experience, may supervise more junior level technicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • At least one year of related experience required, at least five years preferred.

  • Possess a valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Must be able to accurately interpret prints, schematics, and manufacturer's technical documents.

  • Possess knowledge and have experience in building trades including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, lighting, carpentry, and painting.

  • Current 30-hour OSHA preferred.

  • Basic computer skills are required, to include competency with the standard Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Knowledge of, and the ability to skillfully use common hand and power tools.

  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Capability of adapting to changing situations and workloads daily, to meet the requirement of the contract/PWS.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities and the ability to use resources at hand to fix problems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Current or former favorable experience working on a Federal Government installation is preferred.

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified
