The Head of Technical Training will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our legal and business services professionals possess the necessary technical skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. This position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive technical training programs tailored to the specific needs of our firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both law and technical training methodologies, with a passion for continuous learning and development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with IT leadership and Talent Development team to identify training needs and develop a strategic training plan aligned with the firm's objectives and priorities

  • Conduct skills gap analysis for legal and business services teams or specific roles within the firm

  • Design and develop a technical training curricula with engaging training materials, including presentations, e-learning modules, workshops, and interactive exercises, to effectively convey complex legal concepts and technical skills

  • Implement a portfolio of high-quality learning products that meets the diverse needs of the firm's target audiences

  • Work closely with subject matter experts, practice group leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure that training content is accurate, relevant, and up-to-date

  • Oversee a team of technical trainers and the execution of training sessions, ensuring effective learning outcomes

  • Monitor the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, feedback surveys, and performance metrics, and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.

  • Provide ongoing training and support to enhance technical proficiency and foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the firm

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the legal industry, and integrate relevant technical tools and platforms into training programs to enhance learning outcomes and efficiency

Skills and experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in a professional services environment; ideally with a large law firm

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, business, education or a similar field

  • Additional certification in training (e.g. Certified Technical Trainer) is a plus

  • Proficiency in learning management systems and e-learning platforms

  • Experience with Captivate or a similar tool

  • Proven experience in designing and delivering technical training programs, preferably in a legal or professional services environment.

  • Possess solid business acumen and experience in analyzing business and legal trends and developing programs, as well as the ability to synthesize complex information

  • Experience managing a team of technical and non-technical resources

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Proficiency in instructional design methodologies and e-learning authoring tools.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of effectively managing training initiatives and projects.

  • Proven organizational skills with project management experience and multi-tasking abilities; strong written and oral communication skills; attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Understands the need and has the ability to manage expectations; ability to deal with ambiguity

  • An innovative problem solver; self-directed, highly motivated and results driven

  • Promotes and demonstrates our business principles

  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours
