The Department of Management in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) consists of 27 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate degrees in management and human resources management and a doctoral degree in management and organization studies. Our faculty and students have been recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally for excellence in both research and teaching.



With over 7,900 students, the Carlos Alvarez College of Business is one of the 40 largest business schools in the nation and offers a comprehensive curriculum at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral level. Accredited by AACSB International, the college was named one of the Top 5 undergraduate business programs in Texas by Bloomberg Businessweek. This is a three-year appointment, beginning Fall 2024, with an option to renew after three years.

Salary Range: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

The Department of Management at the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for two Assistant Professor of Practice positions beginning Fall 2024. We welcome candidates with industry and teaching experience in the areas of Human Resources Management or General Management.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g., general management, human resources management, business ethics, or business communications) and active participation in departmental, university and community activities. The successful candidates will be expected to teach up to eight courses per year and will be expected to work non-remotely, teaching in-person courses on campus.

The selected candidate in the area of Human Resources Management will teach general management, business communications and professional development, and human resources management courses. The selected candidate in the area of General Management will teach general management and business ethics courses. Both candidates will teach at the undergraduate level with opportunities to teach at the graduate level.

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Business, Management, Human Resources Management, Strategic Management, Leadership, or a closely related discipline (e.g., Industrial/Organizational Psychology).
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level, with evidence of outstanding performance in previous teaching assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs in support of a broad student population.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Management, Human Resources Management, Strategic Management, Leadership, or a closely related discipline (e.g., Industrial/Organizational Psychology).
  • Industry experience in human resources management or project management.

Working Conditions
