Salary

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week

Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions

Summary

The office of the Associate Dean of Research (ADR) for KCEID promotes and facilitates faculty efforts in pursuing grant and contract opportunities. Aligned with this mission, the Senior Grant Development Manager (KCEID) assists faculty and staff in developing proposals with a focus on large-scale collaborative proposals, center proposals, and training grants. Work can include coordinating teams, writing grant texts, reviewing and editing narratives, identifying funding opportunities, developing competitive proposals, and other aspects of grantsmanship. The Senior Grant Development Manager coordinates work with the Sponsored Project Administration and the Office of Research Support.

Job Duties:
  1. Researches and identifies funding organizations and other external support sources.
  2. Works with faculty and staff to facilitate the development of competitive research proposals and contracts.
  3. Conducts or facilitates grantsmanship editing and review, and makes improvement suggestions.
  4. Assists with the formation and coordination of collaborative research teams.
  5. Assists with the coordination of engineering-related research events and workshops at UTSA.
  6. Assists in providing research support information for the college website.
  7. Provides updates to the Associate Dean of Research regarding the status of grant and contract submissions.
  8. Assists in gathering research performance data for monitoring college-level sponsored project productivity and in preparing associated reports and presentations.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of related experience in proposal or other academic/technical writing, review or editing.
  • Proven experience in designing and executing successful proposal development strategies, to include alignment of sponsor and institutional priorities.
  • Two years of demonstrated project management experience.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Access.
  • Experience with Adobe applications for PDF creation, conversion, modification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional and other related applications.
  • Experience using standard office equipment.
  • Webcam or other videoconferencing equipment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
  • Similar writing or proposal development experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of UT System rules and regulations.
  • Experience with either directly managing or assisting with the implementation of a sponsored program and/or in pre-award research administration.
  • Experience with Grants.gov, FedBizOpps, Research.gov and/or Fastlane, eRA Commons, Cayuse, Pivot Foundation Search, Academic Analytics and/or similar systems.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA).


Working Conditions

Working Environment:
  • Normal office conditions; able to work under strict time constraints.
  • May require occasional travel or occasional weekend/extended hours to meet deadlines.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasional.

This position will be primarily located:

On Campus: Primary work location will be on campus approximately three days per week and potentially two days working hybrid. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
