Food Service Worker I performs entry-level food service work. Work involves preparing and serving food, cleaning equipment and work areas, maintaining inventories, and receiving and issuing food and supplies. Works under close supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

1. Serves and monitors the distribution of meals, and ensures that guidelines for special diets are followed.
2. Prepares dining areas for the serving of meals and sets up serving lines.
3. Cleans dining, service, and food preparation areas.
4. Cleans and sterilizes dishes, kitchen utensils, equipment, and facilities.
5. Assists in the preparation of modified or special diets and in performing calculations for special diets.
6. May maintain daily records.
7. Performs related work as assigned.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
1. Ability to weigh, measure food ingredients and portions; follow instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures; and work harmoniously with others.
2. Knowledge of food preparation methods, of food storage and preservation, and of sanitation regulations.
3. Skill in the operation, cleaning, and sanitizing of food service appliances and equipment.
4. Ability to prepare and serve food; to clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas; and to maintain accurate records.
5. Ability to Lift 15-44 pounds, Pull up to 50 pounds, Carry 15-44 pounds and Push up to 50 pounds.
6. Physically able to bend repeatedly, stand for long periods of time, sit, walk, stoop and climb.
7. Ability to reach above the shoulder, simple grasping and simultaneous grasping.

Initial Selection Criteria:
1. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
2. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG list of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare workers are considered to be at significant risk for acquiring or transmitting hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza. All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with patients. In the event you choose to not be immunized for the influenza virus, you may be required to wear a mask and take other protective measures.
